Victorian Houses

The photos in this section show some of the wealth of detail found in Victorian houses in the San Francisco Bay area. There are several styles of Victorian houses. The ones pictured here are primarily the later, more fanciful variety. The common factors are asymmetry, a wealth of ornamental detail, bay and bow windows, porches, towers, turrets, gables, dormer windows, and rounded elements such as porches and windows. The purpose of this page is simply to introduce young students to Victorian houses similar to the Grace Mansion in The Spiderwick Chronicles. In the next section, there are pictures of other styles of houses to provide a contrast to the Victorian style.
